CHENNAI, JUNE 23. Members of the Tamil Nadu Medical Students CRRIs, Senior House Surgeons, Dental and Postgraduate Doctors Association have appealed to the Health Minister and Secretary to order a probe into the postgraduate medical results and counselling this year.

Alleging largescale irregularities in the evaluation and allotment of seats, the association office bearers have urged the authorities to take cognisance of the complaints and make an inquiry into the process. In a release they said they had taken the matter to the notice of the Health Secretary on May 4 this year, before the counselling sessions began, but no action was taken. Students said the State Health Department’s web site had been flooded with complaints about the PG examinations, but even that had not provoked any response.

Members of the association said a comparison of the results of the JIPMER PG entrance test and the Tamil Nadu entrance test would reveal discrepancies that could not be explained. The top rankers in the Tamil Nadu test who had also written the JIPMER examination were not ranked in the latter. “The JIPMER test is a highly competitive one, where you need to score at least 50 per cent to be ranked. How can the top 100 rankers in the State exam not even find a place in the JIPMER list if they are that good” a student asked.
