From http://www.business-standard.com/generalnews/news/cbse-to-hold-first-common-entrance-test-for-mbbs-bdsmay-5/55621/

The first-ever common entrance test for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country will be conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on May 5 next year.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will cater to admissions in all the government and private medical and dental colleges in the country on the basis of its merit list. Over 10 lakh students are expected to take this examination next year.

With this, the All-India PMT exam held earlier alongwith other state medical entrance exams would not be held now and this NEET-UG will substitute all previous tests.

There are a total of 355 recognised medical colleges in the country in which the admissions to MBBS courses will be held on the basis of the common merit list of NEET-UG.
Besides, the reservation of seats in medical and dental colleges in respective categories will be as per applicable laws prevailing in states/Union Territories.

“There will be no intereference in such reservations and quotas as decided by the state governments and private medical colleges,” a top MCI official said.

Announcing the date, CBSE said that Medical Council of India (MCI) has already notified that the Board will be conducting the test for entry to medical and dental colleges in the country.

The CBSE will be conducting the NEET in English, Hindi and those regional languages in which the tests were held earlier.

The syllabus for this examination has already been notified by the Medical Council of India (MCI) earlier and all admissions to MBBS and BDS will be held on the basis of the common merit list of this NEET for under-graduate courses.

The NEET syllabus was finalised after review of various state syllabi as well as those prepared by CBSE, NCERT and COBSE to establish uniformity across the country, keeping in view the relevance of different areas in medical education, an MCI official said.

New Delhi: The first-ever National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to MBBS and BDS courses across the country will be held on May 5 next year, the CBSE Wednesday announced.

The NEET aims at mitigating the need of students to appear in multiple tests and promote merit in admission process.

It will allow class XII students to sit in a single entrance examination to get admission to almost all medical colleges in India, including private medical colleges.

A single merit list will be created for the MBBS and BDS seats across the country, which will show state, minorities and SC/ST quotas.

Announcing the date, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said that Medical Council of India (MCI) and Dental Council of India (DCI) have already notified that the Board will be conducting the test for entry to medical and dental colleges in the country.

The syllabus has already been notified by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and all admissions to MBBS and BDS will be held on the basis of the common merit list.

The NEET for admission to UG courses would be conducted by the CBSE and the NEET for PG courses would be carried out by the National Board of Examinations.
