From 2013, medical students aspiring to get admission to Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune would have to appear for National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) both at undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) level.Lt Gen H Kakaria, director general, Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMC), made the announcement stating clearly that AFMS was now a part of NEET-UG and NEET-PG examination system and would not be holding separate entrance test for admissions to AFMC.
“The new procedure would apply for entry into AFMC from 2013. The merit criteria would be decided by NEET-UG and NEET-PG entrance tests. There would be an option in application form asking candidates if they wish to apply to AFMC. Only those who have indicated their wish to join would be separated and based on merit, would be referred for interview to us,’’ said Kakaria. However, he clarified that AFMC will only admit students after conducting various tests.
“We would expect meritorious candidates to also pass physical, mental status evaluation and other tests prescribed for aspirants. Only after this, evaluation would candidates be offered seats,’’ he said.
