RULES AND REGULATIONS

Candidates for admission to the 1
st
year Post Graduate Degree in Master of Science in Epidemiology
should have completed any one of the following degrees recognized by the Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R.
Medical University or any other University recognized as equivalent thereto.
MBBS / BDS / B.A.M.S. / B.U.M.S. / B.H.M.S. / B.S.M.S. / M.Sc.in Nutrition
Biochemistry/Anatomy/Physiology/Pharmacology/ Medical Microbiology





All Candidates from India and abroad who have U.G. and P.G. Degrees recognized from other
Universities other than The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University must obtain Eligibility
Certificate through the University and submit it at the time of applying for admission to the course.
The non-Indian nationals, even when provisionally selected, will not be registered in the course
until No objection Certificate and Certificate for HIV/AIDS Test are obtained from the Government
of India. Candidates presently employed in Government or private institutions and seeking
admission, should obtain a NO OBJECTION CERTIFICATE from the employer stating that
permission has been granted and the candidate will be relieved for registration of admission to M.Sc.
Epidemiology course in The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University.
  

 
The Application Form and the Prospectus and a set of enclosures can be downloaded from the
Web Site www.tnmgrmu.ac.in of The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University from 02.03.2012.
The duly filled in application completed in all respects will be registered in this University and
processed on payment of Rs.750/- (Rupees seven hundred and fifty only) by a bank demand draftdrawn on any nationalized bank in favor of The Registrar, The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical
University, payable at Chennai towards non-refundable Application Processing Fee. The completed
application form (filled by the applicant in his/her own handwriting) with the following enclosures
should reach The Registrar, The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University for registration and
processing on or before 5.45 P.M. On 04.04.2012.
ENCLOSURES:

in favor of The Registrar, The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University
payable at Chennai.

· An Attested Photocopy of the qualifying degree certificate

· Eligibility Certificate for admission to M.Sc. (Epidemiology) for candidates
from other universities than The Tamilnadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University
All eligible candidates will be permitted for a written entrance examination and the dates of which
will be published in the University Web Site at 5.45 P.M. On 09.04.2012.
It is the responsibility of the candidates to see the details in the website. Further the date of issue of
Identification cum Attendance Card and Admit Card in this University Premises will also be notified
on 19.04.2012.
Entrance exam will be on 22.04.2012 and interview will be held on 25.04.2012(2.00 PM)General Instructions

Selection Policy
Selection will be based on written entrance examination and an interview to be conducted to all the
eligible candidates. The candidate understanding of basic human biology and disease process and
capacity to comprehend quantitative information, past academic performance and past experience
will be taken into consideration. The final selection will be made after interview. Successful
candidates will be provisionally selected for admission to the two years M.Sc. Epidemiology Degree
course. THE DECISION OF THE SELECTION COMMITTEE WILL BE FINAL.
At the time of interview, the following certificates should be made available in original for
verification.
· MARK / GRADE SHEETS OF THE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION.
· PROVISIONAL PASS CERTIFICATE OF THE QUALIFYING EXAMINATION.
· DEGREE CERTIFICATE.
· TRANSFER CERTIFICATE FROM THE HEAD OF THE INSTITUTION LAST STUDIED
· MIGRATION CERTIFICATE
· ELIGIBILITY CERTIFICATE OBTAINED FROM THIS UNIVERSITY
· PERMANENT REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE OF THE CONCERNED COUNCIL
· SERVICE CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE HEAD OF OFFICE IN RESPECT OF SERVICE CANDIDATES.
Candidates selected should produce a certificate for Physical fitness by an authorized Medical Officer
at the time of admission. Those finally selected and medically cleared for admission will be requiredto join the M.Sc. Epidemiology course on or before 31.05.2012 after paying the tuition fee and other
fee for the first year of the course.

Protocol of the research study that the candidate is planning to work on for the thesis must be
submitted to the faculty by the end of 1

year. The written approval of the research protocol by the
faculty is a pre-requisite for appearing in the part I Examination.
Minimum 90% attendance in all the prescribed courses is mandatory for the candidate to sit for the
University Examination for all years of study of the course and no condonation shall be allowed and
completion of work assignments with a view to obtain at least 50% of marks allotted under internal
assessment is mandatory for the candidate to sit for the university examination.Second year:

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE DEGREE
Candidates will be eligible for the Master of Degree in Epidemiology if they fulfill the following
requirements;
a) Pass in the written, practical and oral examination to be conducted at the end of the 1st year.
b) Submission and satisfactory defense of a thesis/dissertation produced following bonafide work
of the candidate and should secure minimum of 50% in dissertation evaluation, internal
