Applications are invited from service Candidates (with MBBS Qualification only )for 6 months LIFE SAVING ANESTHETIC SKILLS FOR EMERGENCY OBSTETRIC CARE (LSAS) PROGRAM
Under NRHM ,as a part of multiskilling training programme of MBBS qualified doctors from Government Primary and Secondary Health Care Institutions , the State of Tamil Nadu started 24 weeks training in anesthesia specifically focusing in developing skills in obstetric anesthesia to operationalise Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Centres. 220 MBBS doctors have been trained till date.The competency in giving Obstetric anesthesia among the trained doctors is close to 90%.
The training is given in 11 Government Medical College Hospitals. Four trainees are allotted to each medical college after a counseling session at Chennai. Theory classes are conducted in the respective medical colleges covering all aspects of Clinical Anesthesia and Basic Sciences. The trainees have to go through 24 hours duty in Emergency Obstetric OT once in every 4 days .On the post duty day the candidate is posted in a lighter OT like Family Planning OT. The trainee will spend two days in non obstetric theater where he will get a chance to give general anesthesia. The candidate is given a chance to intubate and ventilate a patient using muscle relaxants and extubate once the patient satisfies all the criteria for extubation.
During the training period every trainee should have completed
1. 100 Cases of spinal anesthesia
2. 30 Cases of general anesthesia
3. 10 Cases of epidural anesthesia
4. 10 Cases of laryngeal mask insertion
5. CPCR
6. CVP (Cannulation on a Mannequin)
And attained Basic Knowledge about Ventilators, Fluid Balance 85 Arterial Blood Gas Interpretation.
The trainee will write a 3 Tier examination during the training period. The Tier-I and Tier-II exams are conducted in the medical colleges at the first and second month of training.
TIER 1
160 Marks – Theory
40 Marks – Practical Exams
TIER 2
100 Marks – Practical
TIER 3
Conducted at Chennai after completion of 24 weeks training and consists
100 Marks Theory
50 Marks for anesthetic drugs
50 Marks for anesthetic equipments.
40% of the marks at Tier I, 20% of the marks at Tier II and 40% of the marks at Tier III are taken for final certification.combining all these three(40+20+40) , the candidates should secure more than 70% of marks.
During the training, apart from the regular salary, TA/Perdiem shall be paid at applicable rates. After the training,the trained anesthetist will be attached to FRUs. The State Health Society will provide monetary incentive to the Government Medical Officers trained in LSAS training at the rate of 200/- per LSCS surgery or emergency obstetric procedure and family welfare session attended by them in addition to the eligible TA/DA as per G.O.No.15, Health 85 Family Welfare EAP-II (2) department dt:05.07.2010.
The next batch of training will commence in the third week of April -2011.
